The purpose of PR and PR programs are to get things out into the media in order for them to be published and broadcasted.

One of the most important characteristics of news is timeliness. Having news be current and up-to-date is key. If you report on something that has happened in the past or is old news, you are considered irrelevant.

News Releases can be very valuable especially ones that have a local angle.

Finding news can be difficult but the text gave some great tips.

  • look at old news clips
  • special events
  • Brainstorming
  • personal appearances
  • protest

Now that you have the news– how do you present it?

  • make sure it relates to the audience
  • make sure you present the information in a way that is understandable and valuable
  • make sure you are presenting it to the right people
